Vacuum Insulation for Heating & Cooling Appliances – Increasing Energy Efficiency

At an ambient temperature of 25°C, a refrigerator must compensate for a temperature difference of approximately 20°C, while a hot water boiler must even bridge a difference of around 40°C. Proper insulation plays a crucial role in maintaining cooling or heat energy inside the refrigerator or boiler in an energy-efficient manner. The higher the insulation value, the longer the desired temperature can be maintained. As a result, the use of vacuum insulation panels (VIPs) reduces energy consumption and therefore operating costs—while maintaining the same level of performance.

Cooling Appliances

Vacuum insulation panels have been used in refrigerators, freezers, and similar appliances for many years. The use of VIPs is ideal in these applications because space is limited while high insulation performance is required.

Conventional insulation quickly reaches its limits, either due to a poor thermal transmittance coefficient or because it requires too much space. For this sector, Vaku-Isotherm offers suitable vakuVIP® products, specifically tailored to meet the requirements of refrigeration applications.

Heating Appliances

Due to increasing energy efficiency requirements, the demand for high-performance insulation in heating technology is also rising. This includes, among others, heating boilers and hot water storage tanks.

Since September 26, 2015, these appliances have also been subject to mandatory energy efficiency labeling. As conventional insulation reaches its limits in achieving attractive energy efficiency classes in this field as well, vacuum insulation panels represent the ideal solution.
