Vacuum Insulation in Cold Room Construction – Minimal Floor Build-Up with Optimal Insulation Performance for Barrier-Free Access

The major advantage of vacuum insulation panels (VIPs) is their extremely low space requirement. This characteristic makes it possible to insulate areas that cannot be sufficiently insulated with conventional insulation materials. By using VIPs, so-called thermal bridges can be effectively eliminated. The resulting energy savings benefit the environment and are also financially worthwhile.

The use of VIPs also offers direct practical and architectural advantages. Cold rooms are often installed in existing buildings. Cold room builders face the challenge of keeping floor height differences as small as possible. To minimize the floor build-up height and thereby enable barrier-free access—without compromising insulation performance—the use of VIPs has become common practice.

Insulating the cold room with VIPs (illustration on the left) not only increases storage space but also reduces the floor build-up height. This makes loading and unloading significantly easier compared to the use of conventional insulation (illustration on the right).

In supermarkets or food retail stores, deep-freeze storage and bakeries are often located close to each other. To keep energy consumption low despite large temperature differences, VIPs are also installed within wall systems or prefabricated cold room elements.

With our vakuVIP vacuum insulation elements, you can insulate efficiently and sustainably at the same time. The product contains no toxic or hazardous substances. The core material consists largely of silica, which is also used in food products and is completely physiologically harmless. Furthermore, our VIPs are manufactured entirely at our production facility in Germany, where we prioritize energy-efficient and sustainable processes. For example, the core material can be recycled. In addition, we generate electricity using our in-house solar power system.
