High Performance Insulation

Research & Development

We are committed to the development of high performance materials. Our focus is vacuum insulation panels but goes beyond that technology. The application of the product in the practice is at least of the same importance as it is very often different to the laboratory conditions. Therefore we like to keep it real. We have the best employees who are committed to a hands on mentality and like to work with the user in the field. The basement for a good R&D work is our team. They create the ideas of tomorrow. Development takes place at Vaku Isotherm on many levels and preferential also with partners.

We have a special team for our R&D activities. They work closely with our manufacturing and quality department. All departments are in the same building to guarantee fast developments with high efficiency. Research should not only take place in the laboratory. It must be proven under every manufacturing condition. Therefore we have certain machines for prototyping within the production environment available. This is also helpful to deliver fast prototypes (e.g. a specially shaped vacuum insulation panel) for our customers for their application. We also conduct feasibility studies to prove potential processes are capable. Therefore statistical analysis tools (such as Design of Experiments) are a common method and working tool. With new processes it is important to train our staff properly. The team who is setting up a new process is also developing new manufacturing documents such as standard operating procedures (SOP), work instructions or inspection documents.

Vaku Isotherm cooperates with regional and non-regional universities and institutes such as:

  • Technical University Freiberg
  • University of Applied Sciences Mittweida
  • Forschungsinstitut für Wärmeschutz e.V. (FIW) Munich
  • Innovationsgruppe Hochleistungs-Wärmedämmung Dübendorf, Switzerland (energie-cluster.ch)

All these cooperations are important for us to create new ideas and team work. We love to work closely with students as they usually have a totally different view which is vital for new ideas. We offer our students a good partnership to work on their bachelor or master thesis or whether they just would like to spend their time for an internship in a fast pace environment.

We also have great collaborations with companies which are especially important to bring new products on the market. Some of these valuable partners are shown in the section "Partners".

Our R&D services:

  • Your partner for ideas when it comes to high performance insulation materials (e.g. shapes, applications, materials, etc.) - fast, competent and flexible
  • Your ideas are treated 100% confidential
  • Fast and free* manufacturing of prototypes for your application
  • Direct contact to the R&D department
  • State of the art laboratory equipment for material testing (e.g. heat conductivity value, tensile strength, fire test, inner pressure) and precise dimensional measurements

*depends on the complexity and requested amount of samples

The photo shows a vacuum insulation panel with inserts to give the possibility to mount it on other objects. We think that the range of applications for vacuum insulation panels are greater than the current market. This is just one example. Partnerships and cooperations are the basement for future applications. Please contact us for more information.

We made it possible to manufacture a vacuum insulation panel which bends automatically due to its internal stress caused by the vacuum. It can be easily and space saving stored in flat condition (for example in a serial production before mounting it on a hot water tank). Contact us for more information.

Current R&D projects
